Library Visitor Guidelines
On-campus Visitors and Guests
ORNL Research Library collections and services are available
to all on-campus visitors and guests of Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Library
staff provides assistance from the reference desk at Main Library in Building
4500N each work day from 8:00 to 4:30 and responds to email
questions.
Employees of B&W Y-12, BJC, DOE-ORO and Subcontractors
The library welcomes employees of B&W Y-12, BJC, DOE-ORO, and
UT-Battelle subcontractors to use the Library for purposes
related to official business.
DOE-badged visitors from B&W Y-12, BJC, DOE or subcontractors may need
to go to the Visitor's Center to get a prox card for access into Building
4500N.
B&W Y-12, BJC, and on-campus DOE employees can also access
electronic library resources from the Library's internal
Web site.
Off-site Subcontractors
Subcontractors of other DOE contractors are welcome to use the Library
for purposes related to official business. Off-site
subcontractors who do not have a DOE badge, should first contact the Library
office at (865) 574-6735 to arrange a visit, at least 24 hours in advance
of the visit and must provide the subcontract number
under which they are working to establish eligibility. When the library
office has confirmed the requestor's eligibility, a request will be made
for a visitor badge.
The General Public
Although the general public cannot come to the ORNL
Research Library, the ORNL Library Catalog is
available from the Library’s public
Web site. The public can contact
the library for assistance with finding ORNL documents or with other
questions. Phone: (865) 574-6744
ORNL Retirees
Laboratory retirees must be sponsored and cleared by another
Laboratory organization in connection with official business to use the
Library. Library staff are not authorized to request badges for retirees.
Faculty and Students
Through reciprocal agreements, the students and faculty
of the Univeristy of Tennessee, Knoxville, Pellissippi State Community
College, and Roane State Community College can arrange to visit the ORNL
Research Library (if they are U.S. citizens). Faculty and students should
contact their own library to arrange a visit.
