The Terrebonne Basin Barrier Shoreline Restoration Project is an ecosystem restoration effort to reconstruct coastal landforms of the barrier shoreline to maintain the integrity of the Terrebonne Basin barrier shoreline system and increase habitat availability for migratory birds, wildlife, and aquatic organisms. The location for this project is the Isles Dernieres (Raccoon Island, Whiskey Island, Trinity Island, and East Island) and Timbalier Island (Timbalier Island, and East Timbalier Island) barrier island chains located in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes.

The project will investigate introducing sediment to this sediment-starved system, reducing the current number of breaches and enlarging the width and dune crest of the islands. Some features being considered to meet project objectives are island nourishment using offshore sand sources, offshore wave breaks, feeder berms, strategic use of vegetative plantings, sand fencing, and bayside marsh creation.
