The National Transportation Safety Board released additional information regarding the derailment of 21 coal cars of a CSX train in Ellicott City, Md. According to the NTSB:
The time of the derailment is now estimated to have occurred slightly earlier, at 11:56 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20, 2012
Initial damage estimate provided by CSX is $2.2 million, which includes environmental remediation costs
Investigation of the signal systems has been completed
All rail equipment involved in the accident has been recovered and inspected
Interviews with the train crew, maintenance workers and track inspection personnel will be completed by Friday afternoon
Jim Southworth, the NTSB's Investigator-in-Charge of the accident, expects the Board's on-scene phase of the investigation to be completed by Saturday afternoon, Aug. 25.
