Excellence in Logistics

Logistics Vision and Strategy Branch (LPV) Focus Areas

ORGANIZATION (MLG REORG/202K)

The stand-up of the Marine Logistics Groups (MLG) constitutes the most significant restructuring effort within the Marine Air-Ground Task Force in the last 30 years. Coupled with the growth of the Marine Corps to 202K personnel, the MLG construct is being refined to most effectively support Marines in the fight. The MLG construct ensures the combat service support element of the MAGTF is organized and trained in garrison as it is when deployed and facilitates strong habitual working relationships between supported and supporting units.

SYSTEMS/DATA (GCSS-MC/BRIDGE TECHNOLOGIES/TFSMS/DATA ASSURANCE & INTEGRATION

Once fielded, the Global Combat Support System-Marine Corps (GCSS-MC) will replace decades old legacy logistics systems with a state-of-the-art integrated IT solution. In use on the battlefield today, several technologies are providing Marines with a “bridge” to the future capabilities of GCSS-MC. These “bridge” technologies allow commanders access to actionable, decisionable information. With a multitude of interdependent systems within command & control, logistics, fiscal, manpower, and force structure, data assurance and integrity are critical for most effective use of information.

PORTFOLIO MGMT (JT LOG PORTFOLIO MGT/LOG PORTFOLIO MGT)

Logistics Portfolio Management (Log PfM) is the disciplined management of more than 200 USMC logistics systems and applications. PfM guides the creation, modification or termination of Log systems based on our strategic goals, architectures, risks and performance objectives. The Portfolio Management Board looks to optimize the use of IT resources to provide logistics capabilities to the warfighter.

STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS (LOG CAMPAIGN/STRATEGIC PLANS AND COMMUNICATIONS)

The Marine Corps Logistics Campaign Plan (MCLCP), in concert with the Commandant’s Planning Guidance and “The Way Forward”, will provide a blueprint for logistics transformation efforts across the Marine Corps and Naval services enterprise. The drafting of the MCLCP is currently underway with representatives from the operating forces and supporting
establishment participating in its development.

OPERATING FORCES SUPPORT (MLT/DAT/EQUIP FIELDING TEAMS/FSMAO) OPERATING FORCES SUPPORT

In order to best support Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) logistics requirements, the former Field Supply and Maintenance Analysis Offices (FSMAO) were renamed Logistics Modernization Teams (LMT) and refocused on institutionalizing logistics modernization in the operating forces. The LMTs train people, facilitate process improvement, and assist in the implementation of approved “bridge” technologies. The LMT’s Data Assurance Teams (DAT) provide assistance at the using unit level to manage and maintain supply and maintenance records.
