ATTENTION IEPs The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is pleased to announce that intermodal equipment providers (IEPs) can now access their inspection data online. Before accessing this data; however, IEPs will be required to request a personal identification number (PIN) and sign up for a Portal Account. The FMCSA Portal provides a broad range of safety information about a company registered with FMCSA through a single interface, rather than requiring users to access multiple systems to gather information. IEPs should sign up as company users, which include officials and employees of companies registered with FMCSA. It is the responsibility of an IEP to provide intermodal equipment that is in safe and proper operating condition. The roadside inspection gives the FMCSA and its State partners information on the condition of brakes, lighting systems, coupling devices, cargo securement, tires, etc. on a piece of IME. That data is then used to determine which IEPs will be considered for future roadability reviews and/or enforcement cases. In addition, the FMCSA, in partnership with the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), will deliver a Webinar to train IEPs on how to access this valuable inspection data in FMCSA’s information system. IEPs should have already received the notification for this training opportunity. For instructions on how to request a PIN and Portal account, click here.
