Public Affairs Office

The Public Affairs Office fulfills the Army’s obligation of keeping internal and external publics informed about the missions and goals of the U.S. Army, highlighting Soldiers’ contributions in civil and military work, and providing truthful and timely information according to the Department of Defense policy of maximum disclosure with minimum delay.

PAO helps to establish the conditions that lead to confidence in America’s Army and its readiness to conduct operations in peacetime, conflict and war.

PAO is located in Building 300, 314 Sasaoka St., Wheeler Army Airfield.

The Public Affairs Office is comprised of three elements:

The Public Affairs Office has the personnel and equipment to:

  • Conduct internal information programs, including the Hawaii Army Weekly newspaper, the Your Military in Hawaii guidebook, and other information programs and products for assigned personnel, family members, civilian employees, retirees and their family members.
  • Prepare and disseminate information to the public through civilian, government, military media.
  • Coordinate community relations activities within the local communities.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public.
  • Conduct public affairs planning and analysis.
  • Develop strategic communication strategies and campaigns in support of operations.
  • Provide 24-hour support to the garrison battle staff.
  • Conduct and evaluate public affairs training programs.
  • Process and transmit digital images and Public Affairs products

Community Relations

  • Conduct and coordinate effective Community Relations programs enhancing positive relations between Army and local civilian communities.
  • Meet with local community groups, civic leaders and provide gateways of communication for Army commanders and community leaders.
  • Arrange for cultural visitations on restricted Army training facilities for community leaders and special interest groups.

Media Relations

  • Respond to media queries on a wide variety of Army issues.
  • Coordinate media visits and escorts on Army training facilities and areas of operation, assisting media representatives with arrangements for transportation, messing, billeting, communication support, personal safety equipment and medical care.
  • Arrange interviews and briefings.
  • Ensure that media understand security policies and constraints required to obtain Army support.
