James F. Duttweiler

Mr. James F. Duttweiler was assigned as deputy garrison commander, U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii, in March 2009. His previous assignment was as the director, Directorate of Public Works, Fort Campbell, Ky., from July 2003-February 2009. A former colonel, Duttweiler completed 24 years on active duty culminating in his assignment at DPW, Fort Campbell.

As a former engineer officer, Duttweiler served in a variety of units during his active duty career, including assignments at Fort Eustis, Va.; Fort Richardson, Alaska; Mogadishu, Somalia; Fort Riley, Kansas; and Heidelberg, Germany. He also served with the New Orleans Corps of Engineers District in Louisiana and was the director of Public Works, 26th Area Support Group, in Heidelberg, Germany.

Prior to his assignment at Fort Campbell, Duttweiler was the Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Installations and Environment).

Duttweiler graduated in 1981 from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and holds a Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana) and a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College and the Command and General Staff College.

Duttweiler has received the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service, and his military awards include the Legion of Merit, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.

He is a member of the engineering honor society of Tau Beta Pi, the civil engineering honor society of Chi Epsilon, the Association of the United States Army, the Society of American Military Engineers, the Army Engineer Association, and the United States Golf Association.
