Visiting Hours and Policies

The KCVAMC business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All general entrances will be locked from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. as well as on weekends and holidays. Access to the facility may be gained through the emergency room entrance on the east side of the building during these times.

Visiting Hours

Your family and friends are welcome to visit you at the Medical Center. Children under the age of 12 are generally not permitted unless the patient is in a private room, however they may visit in an area away from other patients. Children must have direct and constant supervision by an adult other than the patient.

Visitors are allowed 24 hours a day, seven days a week except in the areas listed below. To visit patients on the medical and surgical wards after 9:00 p.m. please sign in at the night entrance (Emergency Room Entrance).

ICU/PCU/ER - Only immediate family may visit. Only two visitors allowed for 10-15 minutes per hour. In rare situations the nurse may adjust the visiting time. No visiting during shift change 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. No children less then 12 years of age allowed in ICU. No food, drinks, plants or flowers in patients rooms.

PACU - Visitors are now allowed.

Psychiatric unit visiting hours are 5:30 pm. - 8:30 p.m. Monday - Friday and 1:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Weekends and Holidays. Children under the age of 15 are not allowed. No visitors in patients rooms.

Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program visiting hours are 5:30 pm. - 8:30 p.m. Monday - Friday and 1:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Weekends and Holidays. Children under the age of 15 are not allowed. No visitors in patients rooms.

Patient Telephones

If you are unable to visit a patient personally, the option to call by phone is also available. Patients have the choice to either be included or not be included in the facility directory. If the patient has chosen not to be included in the facility directory, we may not disclose any information about the patient (including location or patient condition) unless other legal authority applies. A telephone is available at bedside. Long distance telephone calls must be paid by the patient and cannot be charged to the hospital extension.

Patient telephone numbers can be obtained from the hospital operator and can then be dialed directly from outside the hospital.
The number to call a patient is: (816) 861-4700 and then '0' for operator.
