"I have to say that after I had started reviewing for other organizations, reviewing for CDMRP was a goal - the gold standard for consumer reviewers." - L. Bily BCRP

The unique voice and experiences of patients, survivors, family members and advocates play a pivotal role in the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). The innovative vision of research at the CDMRP integrates the experiences of Consumers and the Scientific community in the funding review process. Consumers are involved in all aspects of the review process. They add perspective, passion, and a sense of urgency that ensures the human dimension is incorporated in the program policy, investment strategy, and research focus. Approximately 1,500 consumers have served on scientific peer review panels since 1995. As a result of CDMRP's efforts to include consumers in the scientific review of research applications, doors are opening across the nation to consumers and their participation in the research process. Other funding agencies are following CDMRP's lead, creating more opportunities for consumer involvement.
