U.S. Embassy Tirana American Citizen Services (ACS) has improved its messaging system.  In addition to issuing emergency messages, security messages, and normal messages (not relating to routine demonstrations) through email, the U.S. Embassy will also utilize SMS technology to send messages.  Whenever the ACS section issues emergency, security, or normal messages, we will send an abbreviated version in a text message to U.S. citizens who have registered via the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program and provided a valid mobile number.  Please add the following number to your contacts – 19028003544 – the ACS section will utilize this number to send text messages.  We encourage all U.S. citizens residing in, or visiting Albania, to update their registration information and include a valid mobile number (Albanian, U.S., or international) in order to take full advantage of this service.   

Information about routine demonstrations are posted on this web page and will not be sent to U.S. citizens via SMS or email.  Please monitor this page regularly for information about demonstration activities in Albania.

  • Demonstration in Front of the Tirana First Instance Court

    2/9/2013: The U.S. Embassy has become aware of a scheduled demonstration today, Saturday, February 9, at 12:30, in front of the Tirana First Instance Court near the Lana river at Zhan D'Ark Boulevard.

    1/23/2013: The Embassy is aware that at 12:30, on Wednesday, January 23rd, a protest occurred in the vicinity of the Serbian Embassy, located on Rruga Donika Kastrioti, behind the Albanian Twin Towers.

    1/16/2013: The U.S. Embassy has learned that the Albanian Socialist Party (SP) will hold a memorial in front of the Prime Minister’s Office at Boulevard Deshmoret e Kombit and Mother Teresa Square on January 21, 2013, from 12:00, to 14:00.

    12/19/2012: The U.S. Embassy in Tirana informs U.S. citizens of ongoing protests, including road blockages that continue to occur through the country as a result of continued disruptions in electrical service. 

  • Planned Protest in Selite Neighborhood, Tirana

    12/15/2012: The Embassy has become aware that there is the potential for a demonstration at approximately 4:00pm on Saturday, December 15 in the Selite neighborhood of Tirana.

    11/27/2012: The U.S. Embassy has learned that the Red and Black Alliance (RBA) intends to hold a protest to support Albanian unification tomorrow, Wednesday, November 28, at the Morine border-crossing point on the Albania-Kosovo border. 

  • Planned Protest on Rruga George W. Bush

    11/6/2012: The U.S. Embassy has learned that members of a group of formerly politically persecuted individuals have announced the intention to hold a demonstration outside the Institute for the Politically Persecuted in front of the Parliament on Rruga George W. Bush or on Deshmoret e Kombit in Tirana. The protest is scheduled for Wednesday, November 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

  • Planned Demonstration Outside The Parliament

    10/11/2012: The U.S. Embassy has learned that a group of hunger strikers have applied for a permit to hold a protest outside the Albanian parliament building located at Rruga George Bush at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 11. 

  • Planned Protest by the Roma Community

    7/9/2012: The Embassy has learned that members of the Roma community plan to hold a protest on Rruga Elbasanit outside the U.S. Embassy on July 9, 2012, the start time is estimated for early afternoon. 

  • Association of the Blind of Albania's Public Protest

    6/27/2012: The Association of the Blind of Albania has received a permit to hold a protest on Deshmorit e Kombit in front of the Prime Minister’s office, on June 27, 2012 starting at around 10am. The Embassy does not have an estimate of participants. 

  • Environmentalists' Public Protest

    6/22/2012: A group of environmentalists has announced the intent to hold a public protest today, June 22, near the “ILIRIA” hotel on Rruga Elbasanit, approximately 40 meters south of the U.S. Embassy. 

  • Albanian Democratic Party Concert

    3/21/2012: The Albanian Democratic Party is planning to hold a concert event in Mother Theresa Square from 12:00pm to 2:00pm on Thursday, March 22, 2012. As a result, roads leading to the square will be closed, with additional traffic delays expected in the surrounding areas. 

  • Albanian Socialist Party's Public Rally - Updated Information

    1/20/2012: The Albanian Socialist Party has applied for a permit from the Albanian State Police to hold a public rally in the city of Tirana on Saturday, January 21, 2012. The rally is expected to begin at 10:30 and last until 14:00. 

  • Albanian Red & Black Alliance’s Public Rally

    1/13/2012: The Albanian Red & Black Alliance (RBA) has called for a large public rally in the city of Kruja to commemorate the Albanian National Hero “Skanderbeg” on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. 

  • Albanian Socialist Party's Public Rally

    1/13/2012: The Albanian Socialist Party (SP) has announced plans to hold a public rally on Saturday, January 21, 2012. The Embassy is unaware of a specific time for this event. 

  • Albanian Socialist Party's Large Public Rally

    1/13/2012: The Albanian Socialist Party (SP) has called for a large public rally to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the creation of their youth forum on Sunday, January 15, 2012.
