The Center for Community Organizing Central Bohemia presented the 2011 Prize “With People; About People” to the town of Hlučín on January 24. This prize awards municipalities for outstanding endeavors in supporting democracy at a local level and as well as for good cooperation with local NGOs.

In Hlučín (a town in Silesia, near Ostrava) the town hall organizes public debates on various topics (such as drug-related issues in town), and later facilitates further discussion online with by allowing citizens to view recordings of these debates. The award was presented to the Lord Mayor of Hlučín, Mr. Pavol Kuboš and the municipality’s Environment Section Head, Ms. Soňa Prášková. The 2011 „With People; About People” Award was co-financed by a US Embassy Small Grant.

„By cooperating with different groups of citizens, for example local NGOs and entrepreneurs, a municipality obtains valuable allies who then can participate in implementing projects which resulted from this so-called participatory development planning”, says Ondřej Marek, the Director of Center for Community Organizing Central Bohemia.
