VA Roseburg Healthcare System serves Veterans in central Oregon and Northern California. In addition to our main medical center in Roseburg, we offer a number of services to our patients in four community-based outpatient clinics.


Visiting Hours and Guidelines


Patient Centered Care Principles allows unrestricted visiting hours and to be based on the needs of the patient.  Visitors are encouraged to discuss special visiting needs with the staff.  Whenever possible, and medically appropriate, hospital staff will coordinate special visiting arrangements to meet patient and family needs. 

A. Patient Visiting Hours: 
1. Are unrestricted and based on the needs of the patient.   Visitors are encouraged to discuss special visiting needs with the staff.
2. Whenever possible, and medically appropriate, hospital staff will coordinate special visiting arrangements to meet patient and family needs. 
3. Patients clinically permitted by their provider, to leave the ward may enjoy their visitors in other areas of the healthcare system such as outside seating areas, internal lobbies and waiting areas.
4. Food or beverages brought by families or visitors should be cleared by the nurse or provider in the interests of patient safety.   Visitors are requested not to eat in patient rooms.
5. Children of any age are permitted based upon clinical appropriateness.    Patients or family must supervise the children at all times.
6. The attending staff provider may restrict visiting privileges for therapeutic reasons.
7. The hospital allows a family member, friend, or other individual to be present with the patient for emotional support during the course of the stay. (Note: The hospital allows for the presence of a support individual of the patient’s choice, unless the individual’s presence infringes on other’s rights, safety, or is medically or therapeutically contraindicated. The individual may or may not be the patient’s surrogate decision maker or legally authorized representative).
8. The patient is responsible for encouraging visitors to be considerate of other patients and VARHS personnel.

 
Normal administrative hours are observed (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) in the following areas:


- Building 3
- Building 1, first floor, south end
- Building 1, second floor
- Building 17 (DAV)
- Building 17 (Clothing Room)
- Building 10 (Engineering)
- Building 11 (Laundry)
- Building 13 (Warehouse)

Specific hours are designated in the following areas:
- Kitchen, Bldg, 71: 6:00 .am. to 6:30 p.m. (unauthorized personnel are not allowed in kitchen/food production areas).
- Dietetic Office: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m
- Vending Room, Building 16: 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

24-Hour Availability:


- Building 1, first floor (Ambulatory Care, Emergency Room, Radiology)
- Building 1, second floor for Laboratory, Pharmacy, and Dental:  designated personnel and patients only
- Building 7, Boiler Plant: designated personnel only.
- Police, Bldg. 57: designated personnel only.

ALL personnel (i.e. employees, visitors, etc.) are required to sign in when they are visiting the facility after normal duty hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). The sign-in books along with visitor badges are located in the Administrative Officer of the Day's (AOD) office, Building 1, Emergency Department area.  The sign-in book has two (2) sections:
- Maximum Security Areas: defined as pharmacy, agent cashier, patient travel, and warehouse.
- General Security Areas: defined as all other areas.

Vendors


Vendors are welcome during administrative tour of duty (8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m.) as long as they check in with VA Police and obtain a vendor badge.

Animals


Pets are not allowed in the Medical Center.  Service dogs and animals associated with formal programs sponsoring animal assisted therapy or activities are allowed.  The animal must be kept on a short leash.  Proof of rabies vaccination is required for the animal.  In special patient circumstances the facility director or her designee may grant special permission for a personal pet to visit a hospitalized patient.  The staff will give guidance as to appropriate locations for the animal to visit.

The VA Roseburg campus has a Police Service in Building 57. Our officers provide 24-hour patrols of the facility and parking lots. For general police assistance, please dial (541) 440-1000 x 44331 or x 44333.  Report all suspicious or criminal activity, vehicle accidents, and personal property losses to the VA Police while on the facility grounds as soon as possible.  Because the VA Medical Center is federal property, all persons and bags are subject to search. In addition, no weapons, alcohol, or illegal drugs are permitted.

Lost and Found:


Please contact the VA police in Building 57 regarding items that have been Lost or Found. You may also contact them at (541) 440-1000 x 44331 (or x 44333).


Parking


Patient parking is in the North Parking Lot by the Urgent Care Entrance.  From Garden Valley Blvd: enter VA grounds, stay on main road and stay right at second intersection, enter North Parking Lot.   From Harvard: Take a right at stop light at Fir Grove intersection, enter VA grounds, stay on main road until you come to a stop sign.  Turn left and go into the North Parking Lot.
