Ambassador Katz addresses an American Studies class at Lisbon University

Ambassador Katz addressed an American Studies class at the University of Lisbon’s Faculty of Letters, outlining key 19th century trends that propelled the United States onto the world stage. He singled out immigration, Manifest Destiny, the Civil War and slavery, and related our demographic and democratic expansionism to current trends. A lively question and answers session ensued on such topics as federalism, the Occupy Wall Street movement, and race relations.

Prior to the lesson, Ambassador Katz met with the director of the Faculdade de Letras, Professor António Feijó, and Professor Teresa Cid of the American Studies Department.
