Who Should Attend
NST2 is directed to the broad engineering community based in industry who wishes to utilize neutrons in a wide range of diffraction applications. Emphasis will be on the future uses of new ORNL Engineering Neutron Diffraction facilities for non destructive stress, phase and texture mapping, in situ load and furnace measurements, and grain level materials deformation behavior. The connection to modeling of residual stress generation and deformation processing will also be made.

Goals and Expected Outcomes
- Identify the current needs and potential contributions for neutron scattering by industry utilizing engineering diffraction techniques.
- Recognize current and future capabilities of neutron diffraction facilities at U.S. neutron scattering facilities, including the High Flux Isotope Reactor and the Spallation Neutron Source, for industrial studies of structural materials.
- Produce a report on potentially valuable directions for additional research and investment focusing on the needs of industry.

Hotel Reservations
The conference hotel is the Comfort Inn of Oak Ridge. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Government rate of $72 plus tax for registrants to the Workshop. When making reservations please identify that you are attending the ASM Education Symposium. The cut-off day for hotel reservation is March 17. Buses will be provided for transportation to and from the hotel to the Spallation Neutron Source’s Central Laboratory and Office building at ORNL.

Air and Ground Transportation
Buses will be provided for transportation to and from the hotel to the Spallation Neutron Source's Central Laboratory and Office building at ORNL. Transportation by private vehicles to the site is discouraged because of lack of parking and site access requirements but private vehicles are allowed if you are registered to attend the Workshop.
Daily pickup at the hotels will be about 7:30am with arrival at ORNL about 8:00 a.m.
Sessions on Monday and Tuesday will begin daily at 9am and buses will depart ORNL for the hotels by 8:30 p.m. The Wednesday afternoon session will feature tours of the Spallation Neutron Source and High Flux Isotope Reactor in the afternoon following the close of discussions. Depending on the number of requests made to Kaye Carter, carterjk@ornl.gov, transportation will be provided from ORNL to the Knoxville airport.
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory website (http://www.ornl.gov) provides links (http://www.ornl.gov/ornlhome/visiting.shtml#getting) to airports and car rentals as well as area maps. Oak Ridge, TN is served by the airport in Knoxville (abbreviation TYS), about 30 minutes away. Information about the airlines and related ground transportation (limousines, taxis to hotels) is available at http://www.tys.org. We have had great success with Executive Van and Limo at (865) 671-2509 [toll free at 1- 800-432-7923]. If you want to be picked up at ORNL, they are the only limo service with approved access to ORNL. You will need to call for advance reservations as they do not sit at the airport.

Advance registration by noon April 9, 2007 is required. Take Bethel Valley Road westbound to the security portal, stop and show identification for each member in the vehicle. Upon approval, continue westbound on Bethel Valley Road for about 3 miles to the first traffic signal. Turn right at the signal and the large stone “Spallation Neutron Source” sign. Proceed up the road 1.8 miles to a large flat parking area at the top of the hill, park in front of the building that has three flag poles in front of it (Building 8600). To the right of the flag poles is the main entrance.

Registration
Registration is required to attend this workshop because of access control at Oak Ridge National laboratory, a U.S. Department of Energy facility. You will be asked for your name, affiliation, email address, citizenship, date and place of birth. There is no charge to attend this workshop. You cannot attend unless you register by April 9.

Poster Session
Requests are actively solicited for presentation of posters at NST2. The topics and posters proposed should be relevant to this workshop and based on industrial collaborations utilizing neutron scattering techniques, especially engineering diffraction. The title of poster, name(s) and affiliation of author(s), and an abstract of a maximum of 200 words should be submitted to Lori Frye, fryela@ornl.gov by April 9; submitters will be informed by April 12th of their acceptance for this session.
The poster area will be 40 in. high by 40 in. long. Only Velcro dots [provided by workshop organizers] will be used to adhere poster materials to the panels.
Scholarships - CLOSED!
Scholarship applications are closed. Those receiving a scholarship award have been contacted by Ms. Roberta Campbell of the University of Tennessee. The scholarships were made available by the generous sponsorship of the UT-ANSWER program, an NSF International Materials Institute program.
