U.S. Trade Official Francisco SÁnchez Concludes Historic Trade Mission to Iraq
Department of Commerce, U.S. Business Delegation Explore Investment Opportunities
BAGHDAD, IRAQ – Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sánchez departed Baghdad today, drawing to a close the first trade mission to Iraq since the end of U.S. military operations. Sánchez declared the mission a successful step in strengthening the U.S-Iraq commercial relationship.
“This is an important moment in the shared history of our two nations,” Sánchez said. “The Department of Commerce and the entire U.S. Government remain committed to helping U.S. companies do business in Iraq and supporting Iraq as it develops its economy. As we assist Iraq in this endeavor, we will also help Americans through the creation of jobs and other economic opportunities.”
This trade mission brought together representatives from 14 U.S. companies with key Iraqi public and private sector decision-makers to explore opportunities and enter or expand their presence in Iraq. The business delegates took part in nearly 200 match making meetings with potential buyers and pursued investment and sales opportunities during their visit.
