Udall Congratulates Medal of Honor Recipient and Former Fort Carson Soldier Clinton Romesha
Former Army Staff Sgt. Romesha Honored for His Heroic Acts at Combat Outpost Keating in Afghanistan
Mark Udall, who serves on the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, attended a ceremony at the White House today to congratulate in person former Army Staff Sgt. Clinton Romesha after President Obama awarded Romesha the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions in Afghanistan while serving with a Fort Carson-based unit.
"Staff Sgt. Romesha's incredible selflessness, leadership and valor during one of the most vicious firefights of the war in Afghanistan are truly deserving of our nation's highest honor," Udall said. "During a massive and well-coordinated Taliban assault on Combat Outpost Keating on Oct. 3, 2009, Staff Sgt. Romesha repeatedly risked his own life while rallying his men, recovering fallen teammates and directing the counterattack against enemy forces. His actions helped to prevent his outpost from being overrun and saved the lives of many of his fellow soldiers. I was deeply honored to be present as Staff Sgt. Romesha was formally inducted into the ranks of America's greatest heroes."
Romesha, who served as Section Leader with Bravo Troop, 3d Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, has previously received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
