2/11/2013 - GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Angela Green took the reigns as assistant Child Development Center director here, Jan. 28.

Green has more than 20 years experience in childcare, both in the classroom and management, and is currently working on her Doctorate of Education with an emphasis on early childhood education.

She was previously stationed at Maxell-Gunter Air Force Base in Alabama, Francis E. Warren AFB in Wyoming and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam AFB in Hawaii, as well as other bases in Texas.

Green said she is still getting to know the staff. Joon Auci, the CDC director, arrived just a few weeks before Green.

"Leadership has changed rapidly this year," Green said. "We have a new director and assistant director coming in at basically the same time. That is a lot of change in a short time period, so right now I am focusing on the staff's morale. I want to get to know everyone well and do whatever I can to make this transition smooth. I want our people to wake up in the morning and be glad they are coming to work."

In the long run, Green said she wants to increase the number of children in the CDC.
"Right now we care for about 100 children," Green said. "My goal is for us to meet our capacity of 170 children. To do that, we must provide the best child care and customer service possible."

To meet her goal, she is starting with input from the staff to see what they would like to add or change.

"I am constantly looking for feedback from my staff," Green added. "I always ask, 'Do you like the way this is done? If you wanted to change it, what would you do? They are the ones who have been here for a while, and their opinions are important and help us make decisions that will move us in a positive direction."

Her staff has given positive feedback for her efforts.

"She seems really dedicated to the staff here and her enthusiasm is catching," said Beth Bradley, Youth Center administrative assistant.

She also intends to gather information from parents.

"We need to know if they like the way things are done now and if they would like to see changes," Green said. "We are making a large impact on the development of children so we need to know what the parents want so we can work with them as a team."

Another goal is to boost and maintain high morale within the CDC staff by starting various initiatives.

"With so much changing, morale can slip and we don't want that to happen," Green said.
Among other initiatives, she has started an inspirational quote of the day.

"The quote gives us something uplifting to read and look forward to," she said. "I've gotten great responses."
