The Opening Battle of a World War
The battle at Fort Necessity in the summer of 1754 was the opening action of the French and Indian War. This war was a clash of British, French and American Indian cultures. It ended with the removal of French power from North America. The stage was set for the American Revolution.

Jesse Peirsol, a wagoner remembers one night at a tavern where there were 30 six-horse teams parked in the wagon yard, 100 mules in a pen, 1,000 hogs in an enclosure and as many cattle in the field. He said he would never forget “the music made by this large number of hogs, in eating corn.”
