Women’s Psychiatric Unit

 
The Psychiatry staff is requesting support to beautify the courtyard that provides fresh-air breaks for our three extremely robust inpatient psychiatric units.  Research reveals that maintaining a garden can help patients with restoring awareness and increasing communication skills.  Their negative self-image and their experiences can be positively influenced by working with living things.  Working with plants can also help patients with physical restoration and aid in their recovery.  Our inpatient wards can offer a humane and welcoming environment for our patients without compromising security.  A landscaped and comfortable courtyard would be a welcome improvement for our veterans.  There has been a recent move to make mental health units as comfortable as possible for our patients taking into consideration safety and security needs of our beneficiaries. 

We are seeking corporate sponsorship to provide plants, planter boxes, and additional soil as well as provide the labor to put the plants and planter boxes in the courtyard.  We would also like to have new grass planted in the courtyard.  Roughly around 1,200 square feet of space would require planting for this project.
