NEEF & PwC Launch Free Financial Education for Public Lands Organizations

WASHINGTON, December 4, 2012 — To boost the capacity of public lands groups nationwide in supporting parks and other public lands, the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) and PwC have launched free, online financial training at the Public Lands Every Day website, publiclandseveryday.org

NEEF and PwC collaborated on the development of six learning modules to meet a growing need for knowledge of financial management and reporting among organizations known as public lands friends groups.

Prepare your 2013 calendar of volunteer, recreation and education events. We've collected a list of some of the most popular nationwide events that can help guide your programming and attract new visitors to your public land. Choose only a couple to support (such as NPLD), or try to do an activity for all of them! Many of these events encourage youth to participate, so plan ahead and invite a school, scout troop or church group to attend.

  • Award Winning Teacher Inspires Students to Volunteer on NPLD

    Deborah Wasylik doesn't just teach her students about the environment; she takes them into the surrounding Orlando community to show how each student can play a role in improving the natural world.

    On National Public Lands Day, Deborah and 60 students from Dr. Phillips High School put what they learned in the classroom into practice by volunteering at Bill Frederick Park to remove invasive plant species, blaze trails and mulch.

  • Highlights from NPLD 2012

    National Public Lands Day 2012 was a huge success.  It was the largest NPLD in the history of the event with 2,206 sites in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam. NPLD 2012 surpassed the previous record from 2010 by almost 120 sites. This year also had the most state and local participation ever.  The day was such an achievement thanks to the support of eight federal agencies, state and local governments, community gardens, schools, our national sponsor, Toyota and contributing sponsor, Northrop Grumman.
