Commercialization Assistance Program

The National Institutes of Health Commercialization Assistance Program (NIH-CAP) is a nationwide program funded by NIH and managed and executed by the Larta Institute. The goal of NIH-CAP is to assist some of the most promising life science companies in bringing their technologies to market.

This 10-month program is specifically designed to assist a select number of NIH SBIR Phase II grantees through training workshops, individual mentoring, and consulting sessions. (NOTE: NIH STTR Phase II grantees are not eligible to participate in this program.)

The program has two tracks for participants:

  • The Commercialization Training Track (CTT) focuses on training and mentoring by key industry and investment professionals to develop a clear and focused commercialization strategy. This track is usually best for emerging companies.
  • The Accelerated Commercialization Track (ACT) is geared toward the participant overcoming a specific barrier to market entry. ACT is appropriate for companies that may have commercialized other products, have clearly defined markets and partners, or have raised financing through institutional channels.

Benefits for participating in this program include the opportunity to:

  • Receive technical assistance and mentoring support from experts at the Larta Institute to address a variety of commercialization issues, including building strategic alliances, identifying sources for funding, defining intellectual property rights, creating a long- and short-term marketing strategy, and building a management team.
  • Present technologies to the investment community, potential strategic partners, and licensees.
