Ambassador Kounalakis hosted a book reading by Hungarian-American author Julie Orringer on October 24. Introducing the book Ambassador Kounalakis mentioned that “Through the book’s history, we are reminded of the importance of diversity and tolerance. The Invisible Bridge is a novel about humanity and the ties that bond us – love, family and loyalty. It is a story that is timeless in its ability to inspire others across countries, across cultures, and across generations.”

Julie Orringer visited Hungary October 21-28 to promote her novel “The Invisible Bridge” which has recently been translated into Hungarian. The book is set in the 1930’s when anti-Jewish laws went into effect in Hungary. It is a grand love story set against the backdrop of Budapest and Paris, an epic tale of three brothers whose lives are ravaged by war, and the chronicle of one family’s struggle against the forces that threaten to annihilate it.  The Embassy organized additional programs for Ms. Orringer at Hungarian universities.
