Major General Michael R. Eyre

Commander, Transatlantic Division

Major General Michael R. Eyre became Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Transatlantic Division, Winchester, Va, April 26, 2012. TAD supports the Army Corps of Engineers missions in U.S. Central Command’s area of operations, consisting of 20 countries from Egypt through the Persian Gulf to Central Asia.

In his most recent assignment, Maj. Gen. Eyre served as the Deputy Commanding General for Military and International Operations of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Washington, D.C. As the Deputy Commanding General, he was responsible for policy, programming, and technical support in the execution of more than $28 billion of design, construction, and environmental programs for the Army, the Air Force, other Department of Defense and federal agencies and foreign organizations.

Maj. Gen. Eyre’s previous assignments were as the Deputy Commanding General and Deputy Chief of Engineers for Reserve Affairs, as Commander of the Gulf Region Division, Baghdad, Iraq, and as Commander of the 416th Theater Engineer Command, headquartered in Darien, Ill.

Maj. Gen. Eyre was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers at the University of Vermont in 1977. He served on active duty from 1977 through 1981, completed the Engineer Officer Basic Course at Fort Belvoir, Va. He was a Platoon Leader and the Executive Officer, Company C, 23rd Engineer Battalion, 3rd Armored Division, in Hanau, Germany; and later the Plans and Projects Officer with the U.S. Army Facilities Engineering Support Agency at Fort Belvoir, Va.

Maj. Gen. Eyre was assigned to the 98th Division (Training) in 1982, commanded at every level from company through brigade and also served in a number of primary staff assignments at all command levels. He was the Assistant Division Commander – Support, 98th Division (Institutional Training) in Rochester, N.Y., prior to becoming the Deputy Commander of the 99th Regional Readiness Command in Coraopolis, Pa.

Maj. Gen. Eyre is a graduate of the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing and Management Engineering from the University of Vt, and a Master of Science in Packaging Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology in N.Y.
