Our office is currently in the process of cataloging all documents, artifacts, and audio-visual material located in the History Office archives into a database. To date, over 22,000 items have been cataloged.

Fort Armstrong, active from 1816-1838 was situated on the northwest corner of Rock Island, strategically placed to control both channels of the Mississippi River.
The fort was not surrounded by walls as most were in this time period. The Mississippi River and 25' to 30' high bluffs provided sufficient natural protection.
Also notable in the picture are the caves beneath the bluffs.
Oral History Program
The History Office conducts oral history interviews that include topics such as end of tour and end of career with military officers and civilian personnel.
Current plans will expand the program by reinstituting oral history interviews with division and directorate chiefs to show the changing mission and focus of the command.

The History Office has conducted an extensive oral history project encompassing the roles of deployed and non-deployed personnel from this command. Approximately 190 people have been
interviewed on their duties and experiences in theater and home station in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF). Generally, experiences captured by the interviews
reveal living conditions, information about positions that directly supported OIF/OEF missions, and valuable perspectives of how the work completed by the command affects the soldiers in the field.

Ordnance Coprs Hall of Fame Inductees
One of our annual tasks is to research and write nominations on individuals who have significantly impacted the development of ordnance. We are open to suggestions on possible candidates.

ASC Historical Studies
The Command Historian is available to speak at training sessions or meetings upon request. George Eaton has given several presentations throughout the command on various historical topics,
his experiences while deployed as the AMC LSE SWA Historian in support Operation Iraqi Freedom, and has provided a great overview briefing of the military structure and culture to current
and new civilian personnel.
