Behind every good project, there's a good Deputy Chief of the Programs and Project Management Division. Until he recently redeployed home to the U.S. Army Corp...s of Engineers, Transatlantic Division , Scott Sawyer filled that role of ensuring the district's program managers had the right balance of time, cost and quality. USACE-TAA commander Jon Chytka sat down with Scott shortly before his departure to talk about his work and life here in Afghanistan.

The Army has determined that additional discussion and analysis are warranted in light of the history of the Great Sioux Nation's dispossessions of lands, the importance of Lake Oahe to the Tribe, our government-to-government relationship, and the statute governing easements through government property. Wednesday after the U.S. Presidential general election Secretary of Defense Ash Carter distributed this memorandum to all U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) employees.

What is USACE? The first engineer officers of the Army were appointed by George Washington on June 16, 1775, during the American Revolution. On March 16, 1802, ...the Army established the Corps of Engineers as a separate, permanent branch and gave engineers the responsibility for founding and operating the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Since then, Army Corps of Engineers professionals have responded to changing defense requirements and played an integral part in the development of the country. Today, they continue the tradition of providing vital engineering solutions, in collaboration with their partners, to secure the nation, energize the economy and reduce risk from disaster. This video provides a summary of the organization's missions. Produced in September 2015 by Headquarters USACE and Sacramento District.

Last night, I was a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers after hosting Seth Meyers at my office a few days prior. Some of you might be wondering why I let Seth ...and his team run around the Pentagon for a day so I'll tell you. I've made a commitment to the men and women in uniform, to President Obama, and to the American people that as Secretary of Defense I will drive change to build what I call the Force of the Future. It's a commitment to ensure that our force of tomorrow is as great as the force of today and it means we need the best talent - talent that represents the great diversity our nation has to offer.

We don't spend enough time highlighting the opportunities that exist and the fulfillment one has from serving your country. No one should gloss over the hardships or the dangers of military life, but I do want for everyone who watched the show to understand how fulfilling and rewarding it can be.

So I encourage you all to watch this clip and take a minute to consider joining our mission - even if for some short time - in a way that speaks to you. It's the noblest thing you can do with your life.
