Academy Nominations
It is a great honor each year for me to nominate bright young Louisianians to serve our country and broaden their education at our nation's four military service academies:
U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis, Maryland)
U.S. Military Academy (West Point, New York)
U.S. Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs, Colorado)
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point, New York)
How to be Nominated to a Military Academy
Academy candidates are encouraged to contact my office in the spring of their junior year to begin the nomination process.
Applicants are asked to submit:
- an application form
- an essay on why they wish to attend a service academy, along with a list of their academic and extra-curricular accomplishments,
- a high school transcript
- the official results of their ACT or SAT exam
Please note: letters of recommendation are welcome, but not required.
All required data—application, essay, transcript, ACT/SAT scores—must be sent to and received in my office no later than December 1. All completed files will be reviewed and considered for a nomination to the academy of the candidates' choosing. Candidates will be notified of whether they are nominated by the end of January.
