Catamount Institute and Colorado Springs Come Together to Host Conversation about Home Fire Mitigation
Centennial Hall (County Building) 200 S Cascade Ave
Colorado Springs, CO 80903-2202
This event will provide homeowners with the opportunity to learn more about protecting their homes and communities from fires. Senator Udall will not be in attendance. However, members of his staff will be available.
Special Guest, Jack Cohen, a research scientist with the U.S. Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station, will discuss ways Coloradans can reduce the risk that fire will spread in their area and surrounding structures. Cohen has been involved in wildland fire research since 1972 and has contributed to the development of U.S. fire behavior prediction systems. Cohen's research has focused on how wildland-urban interface (WUI) fire disasters occur and how homes ignite during extreme wildfires, as well as understanding the fundamental physical processes of fire spread through live-fuel, shrub and tree canopies (active crown fires), with part of his time spent addressing the WUI fire problem.
