HOW TO PREPARE A REQUEST

All Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Requests should be labeled "FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT REQUEST" (also include this on the envelope if the request is mailed). You should be as specific as possible about the records being requested and the records should be described in enough detail so that a knowledgeable official of the activity may locate the record with a reasonable amount of effort. The more information provided about the time frame, document(s) requested, etc., the better the chance that the requested information will be found.

WHERE AND HOW TO SUBMIT A REQUEST

Requesters can submit FOIA requests in writing, by fax or via e-mail.

  1. You can mail your FOIA request to:
    Commander, Naval Ice Center
    ATTN: FOIA Coordinator
    4251 Suitland Rd
    Washington, DC 20395
  2. You can fax your FOIA request to: (301) 817-3990 (ATTN: FOIA Coordinator)
  3. You can email your FOIA request to National Ice Center Liaison.

HOW LONG WILL THE REQUEST TAKE TO PROCESS

Requesters should be aware that FOIA responses should be mailed to you within 20 working days after the FOIA request was received, except in cases of complex requests.
