Year 2011

The International Franchise Association recently released new research on minority-owned, female-owned and joint female/male-owned franchise businesses. Franchised Business Ownership Report

2002 Franchised Business Ownership: By Minority and Gender Groups
Year 2007

In 2007 the International Franchise Association (IFA) commissioned a report to analyze the participation rates of minority firms in the franchise industry. With franchising accounting for approximately 10 percent of the private-sector economy, IFA posits that this sector represents a significant growth opportunity for minority entrepreneurship. Their position is substantiated by the participation rate of minority firms among franchised businesses. In this report IFA found that, as of 2002, minority-ownership represented 19.3% of franchised businesses compared to 13.2 % of non-franchised businesses. In addition to citing the opportunities afforded to minority entrepreneurs, IFA provides data for firms in food services, which is one of the largest sectors of the franchising industry.
