Sergeant Major Michael R. Saucedo

 

Sergeant Major Michael R. Saucedo is a native of Dallas, Texas.  He attended Mac Arthur High School in Irving, Texas. Sergeant Major Saucedo enlisted in the Marine Corps in March 1991 and reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California.

 After graduating boot camp, Private First Class Saucedo attended Marine Combat Training, Camp Pendleton, California.  Upon completion of his basic training, he attended, Marine Corps Communication Electronic Schools (MCCES), 29 Palms, California, where he completed the Field Radio Operator Course.  In September 1991, Lance Corporal Saucedo reported to Communication Company. Headquarters Battalion (HqBn), 2nd Marine Division (MarDiv), Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  He worked as a multi-channel operator until April 1992.  In March 1993, he received a meritorious promotion to Corporal and later sent back to MCCES where he was trained to be Position Location Reporting Systems Master Station Operator.

 In January 1994, Corporal Saucedo received orders to, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).  He participated in contingency operations in the Indian Ocean vicinity Mogadishu, Somalia.  He served as a member of Landing Force U.S. Central Command that prepared to execute non-combatant evacuation operations and reinforcement missions in support of U.S. policy and United Nations Operation in Somalia (Operation RESTORE HOPE).  Additionally, his unit participated in Operations PROVIDE PROMISE and DENY FLIGHT as a component of Joint Task Force Provide Promise, while operating in the Adriatic Sea. 

 In February 1996, Sergeant Saucedo reported to Marine Wing Communication Squadron 18 (MWCS-18), Marine Air Control Group 18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), Okinawa, Japan.  Upon arrival, Sergeant Saucedo was appointed Platoon Sergeant and later Radio Chief of the Single Channel Radio Platoon.  During his tour with MWCS-18, he participated in multiple exercises that included Cobra Gold, Tandem Thrust and Beach Crest.  

 In April 1997, Sergeant Saucedo reported to the Maine Security Guard (MSG) School in Quantico, Virginia.  During his tour as an MSG, he served at American Embassies, Mexico City, Mexico, Nicosia, Cyprus, and Tokyo, Japan.  In June 2000, Staff Sergeant Saucedo was assigned to Dhaka Bangladesh as a non-school trained Detachment Commander.  For his efforts while assigned to the MSG Battalion, Staff Sergeant Saucedo was selected as Charlie Company's MSG of the Year 2000 and later received a meritorious promotion to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

In May 2001, Gunnery Sergeant Saucedo reported to 9th Communication Battalion, Headquarters Group, I MEF.  He served as a Radio Chief and Company Gunnery Sergeant for Company B.  In November 2002, he deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operations ENDURING and IRAQI FREEDOM during which he was hand-selected to serve as the I MEF, Commanding General’s Jump Command Post, Communications Staff Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge.  From February to May 2003, Gunnery Sergeant Saucedo and his team of communicators and security personnel conducted over thirty jump-missions in the combat zone.  In June 2004, Gunnery Sergeant Saucedo received orders to the 13th MEU, where he served as the Radio Chief.  In December 2004, First Sergeant Saucedo returned to 9th Communication Battalion and was assigned to Company C and later to Company B.  In July 2006, First Sergeant Saucedo executed orders to 1st Supply Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 15 (CLR-15), 1st Marine Logistics Group (MLG) and assigned to Headquarters and Service Company and later to Supply Company.   

In April 2008, Sergeant Major Saucedo was transferred to 1st Medical Battalion, CLR-15,1st MLG.  In June 2008, Sergeant Major Saucedo was assigned to Newport News, VA where he served as the Inspector and Instructor Sergeant Major, 4th Supply Battalion, 4th MLG.  In August 2010, Sergeant Major Saucedo was transferred to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 (HMM-262), Marine Aircraft Group 36 (MAG-36), 1st MAW.  While with HMM-262, he served as the Aviation Combat Element, Sergeant Major for the 31st MEU and directly participated in Operation TOMODACHI, which provided humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to the people of the Sendai area of Japan that were affected by the tsunami that occurred in March 2011.  In June 2011, Sergeant Major Saucedo was transferred to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) 36, MAG-36.  During his tenure with MALS-36, the squadron received the coveted Donald E. Davis, MALS of the Year Award for 2011.  In July 2012, Sergeant Major Saucedo received orders to HqBn, 3rd MarDiv, III MEF where he currently serves as the Battalion Sergeant Major and the Camp Courtney and McTureous Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Saucedo's personal awards include:  Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars.
