Management Section

The Kabul Embassy’s Management Section is a customer-driven organization whose goal is to provide the best services possible within resource constraints. To do this, we must team with our customers – their feedback on needs and service quality is essential to meeting Mission requirements. Customers and service providers alike are here for one purpose – to accomplish U.S. national security goals. Our foundation and support structure is designed to deliver optimal support services to our customers, which includes 27 federal agencies represented at post. The introduction of two consulates in Mazar-e-Sharif and Herat in addition to the existing PRTs and DSTs are among the list of entities supported by us.

Afghanistan’s unique environment is flavored with a distinct complexity of employment - in addition to Foreign Service, Civil Service, locally employed staff, and Schedule C appointments, there are many short- and long-term temporarily assigned personnel (TDYers), contractors and military personnel in the civilian workplace. Staffing in Afghanistan has tripled since January 2009 and may grow by another 50% by 2011. Office space outside of the two main buildings and housing units other than the apartment buildings are atypical, and we utilize innovative methods of providing all USG personnel, irrespective of their agency affiliation, with as close to normal working and living conditions as possible.
