Economic Section
The Embassy’s Economic Section is a component of the State Department as well as the International Trade Administration’s Foreign Commercial Service presence in Afghanistan.
Our responsibilities include:
- Manage, monitor, and report on the full range of economic issues between the United States and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
- Advocate, assist and provide information for U.S. business on doing business in Afghanistan.
- Promote the export of U.S. goods and services to Afghanistan
- Interact with the Afghan government, in close collaboration with U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), on bilateral and international economic policy and issues including:
- Infrastructure development (with U.S. Department of Transportation)
- Telecommunications
- Civil aviation (with Federal Aviation Administration)
- Energy and national resource management
- Agricultural policy and related issues (with U.S. Department of Agriculture)
- Finance issues (with U.S. Department of Treasury)
- Commercial relations
Our goals with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan include:
- Encouragement of economic policies conducive to a healthy business environment;
- Encouragement of Afghanistan’s status as a crossroads to trade in South and Central Asia;
- Improvements in Afghanistan’s investment climate, including transparency and predictability in legal and regulatory matters.
