Chaplain David Shirley was born in Asbury Park, New Jersey and grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania. He is an Elder in the Churches of God in Christ (COGIC). He has served as an associate Elder since his ordination in 1988. Chaplain Shirley presently ministers at the Maddox Memorial COGIC in Mansfield, Ohio. He is married and has three daughters. He was commissioned as a Chaplain in November 2001. He spent ten years on active duty and has been a member of the 179th AW since 1993. He completed his Masters in Clinical Pastoral Counseling at the Ashland Theological Seminary in May 2000.
