From Response to Restoration, NOAA is There
NOAA has more than twenty years of experience restoring wildlife and habitats impacted by oil spills, hazardous waste sites and vessel groundings. Our restoration efforts for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill are part of broader, long-term Gulf Coast recovery efforts. NOAA is involved with 380 planned, ongoing, and completed restoration projects in the Gulf states, as well as other efforts such as research and education programs. These projects have restored wetlands, freshwater habitat, coastal beaches, and fragile Gulf shorelines.
NOAA’s Damage Assessment, Remediation, and Restoration Program (DARRP) directly supports response and restoration related to oil spills, including:
- Collaborating with other agencies, industry, and citizens to protect coastal and marine resources
- Responding to pollution incidents
- Assessing risk and impacts to natural resources
- Restoring injured resources
About the Gulf Spill Restoration Website
This site, www.gulfspillrestoration.noaa.gov, is primarily a NOAA site for providing updates on our participation in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill Natural Resource Damage Assessment.
