Airmen join Minot community members in honoring 9/11 flag

MINOT, N.D. -- Airmen from Minot Air Force Base joined members of the Minot community including local firefighters in the unfurling of the National 9/11 flag at Minot State University, Sept. 6. Scouts clean up Minot

MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Troop 437, the group of boy scouts and four adult leaders pictured here, worked for over 2 hours picking up flood debris and trash at the Dakota Bark Park and on a 2 mile stretch of the walking/biking path along the Highway 83 bypass. The slogan of the Boy Scout of America is "do a good turn daily," or in other words help those around you each day—and that is exactly what they did on the weekend of May 12. The scouts collected approximately 20 bags of trash, as well as wood and household items left behind by last year's flood waters. Aside from learning about camping and other skills, community service is a big part of the scouting program. The troop on Minot Air Force Base has been going strong for the last several years, in 2008 it was almost gone with only four scouts participating, but now there are over 25 participants. The troop faces some unique challenges due to the number of scouts that come to and move out of the area each year, but like good scouts, the troop will always be prepared for any challenges they face.
