Education Overview

In the past decade, Senegal has made strides in achieving universal access to education with primary school enrollment rates up from 69.8% in 2000 to 92.5% in 2009.  Despite these accomplishments, more needs to be done to ensure all Senegalese children receive 10 years of quality basic education, especially girls and vulnerable children.  In line with the framework set forth in the Government of Senegal’s ten-year education plan, USAID works to promote access, quality, and governance in middle schools, specifically in the target regions of Fatick, Kolda, Kedougou, Sedhiou, Tambacounda, and Ziguinchor.
