The Global Development Commons promotes innovations for international development through knowledge sharing, partnerships, and collaborative problem-solving. Identifying and fostering innovations through open approaches can improve our ability to deliver on our core mission at the US Agency for International Development. We seek to enable any citizen of this world to co-create solutions to common problems because no single actor can solve today’s global challenges.

 
About The Global Development Commons
The Global Development Commons promotes innovations for international development through knowledge sharing, partnerships, and collaborative problem-solving. The Global Development Commons seeks to enable citizens of the world to innovate and co-create solutions because no single actor can solve today's global challenges.
What Does the Commons Do?
·         Shares information— news, prices, investments, forecasts, resources, training, data— that can improve lives
·         Builds communities around tools that help disseminate and interpret information
·         Taps innovation through competitive challenges designed to bring the best new technology into development work
·         Identifies technology solutions through pilots that improve access to market information, health resources, and education services
·         Partners with other development actors, including companies, donors, governments, and non-profits, to take successes to scale.
Examples of How USAID is Catalyzing the Commons:
·         Launching the 2008 USAID Development 2.0 Challenge to solicit cutting-edge mobile technology applications to solve development challenges.
·         Creating www.GlobalDevelopmentCommons.net, a site that profiles and promotes successful applications of technology to international development efforts
·         Supporting geographic information systems (GIS) and market information system (MIS) mapping systems to identify needs and opportunities and inform decision-making.
·         Integrating advanced Google search tools into USAID, increasing access for all people to agency information and projects

Through the Global Development Commons, USAID embraces a more collaborative, transparent, and open approach to development. Most importantly, the Global Development Commons seeks innovations and collaborative problem-solving to help USAID to deliver more successfully on its core development mission.
