Implementing partner

  • Pact/Brasil

There are an estimated 620,000 people living with HIV/AIDS in Brazil. Given the Brazilian government's commitment to providing universal access to anti-retroviral therapies, this number is expected to grow. This signals a need to introduce new strategies to address the unique needs of this increasingly healthy and vital population. As a result, in 2008, USAID/Brazil, through its implementing partner Pact Brasil, began a pilot program to facilitate social inclusion and promote healthy lifestyles for PLWHA. Activities are focused on developing creative ways to improve the quality of life for PLWHA through income generation activities, employability/life skills training, nutrition education, and physical activity and positive with prevention strategies. The project uses a multi-sectoral approach that engages with the private sector, Brazilian civil society and Brazilian Ministry of Health in order to benefit from the perspectives diverse sectors to guarantee the program's effectiveness and sustainability.
