In the spring of 2009, the U.S. Embassy and Lørenskog Videregående Skole (VGS) started a pilot language program; Language for Leaders (LFL). The aim was to offer a small group of students an opportunity to practice and learn more about the English language than what they get during regular school hours. Through an eight weeks course with classes, field trips and language practice, the students explored grammar, American culture, new words and phrases and vocational training.

The pilot program turned out to be a success, and was therefore expanded to include Elvebakken and Jessheim VGS in addition to Lørenskog in the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 school year. Teachers are provided by the U.S. Embassy in collaboration with the Fulbright Foundation.
