Outreach and Education

NOAA Fisheries Service is committed to working with school age children, community groups and other organizations to provide educational opportunities through seminars, community events and literature so a well informed public can make a difference through responsible decision making.

The community outreach program serves as the focus for the communication of management and regulatory programs with outside agencies and the public. The objective of the program is to seek and create opportunities to inform and educate the public of the regional office's mission and its impact on the economy and environment in the Pacific. This is accomplished by the following:

  • - Raising the awareness of the general public to gain support for the programs of the Pacific Islands Regional Office.
  • - Educating young people and growing stewards of the environment.
  • - Establishing the Pacific Islands Regional Office as a resource for the community for networking with community groups, schools, and other organizations.
  • - Promoting careers in ocean sciences.
  • - Developing age appropriate curriculum with teachers that supports the objectives of the Pacific Islands Regional Office.

The program also designs resources and implements strategies to increase communications and understanding between the agency, our constituents and the general public.
