2012 NOAA Sea Grant Aquaculture Research Program - CLOSED.

Depending on the availability of funds, NOAA Sea Grant expects to have approximately $3,200,000 available for a national competition to fund marine aquaculture research projects for FY 2012. This is part of the overall plan to support the development of environmentally and economically sustainable ocean, coastal, or Great Lakes aquaculture.

This aquaculture research competition is designed to support the development of environmentally and economically sustainable ocean, coastal, or Great Lakes aquaculture by funding research, outreach and management. Proposed projects must support the goals stated in Sea Grant's National Strategic Plan (2009-2013) Focus Area of Safe and Sustainable Seafood Supply: a sustainable supply of safe seafood to meet public demand; a healthy domestic seafood industry that produces, processes, and markets seafood responsibly and efficiently; and informed consumers who understand the importance of ecosystem health and sustainable harvesting practices to the future of our domestic fisheries who appreciate the health benefits of seafood consumption; and who understand how to evaluate the safety of the seafood products they buy.

  • Institutions of higher education, nonprofit organizations, commercial organizations, State, local and Indian tribal governments and individuals are eligible to apply.

2010 NOAA Sea Grant Aquaculture Extension and Technology Transfer CLOSED . (List of Awarded projects link to NOAA Aquaculture program)
NOAA Sea Grant, in partnership with the NMFS Aquaculture Program, will make available up to $4,800,000 in total for a national competition to fund aquaculture extension efforts for FY 2010 to FY 2012, as part of the overall plan to enhance aquaculture extension (including technology transfer) to support the development of environmentally and economically sustainable ocean, coastal or Great Lakes aquaculture. This aquaculture extension and technology transfer competition is designed to support the development of environmentally and economically sustainable ocean, coastal, or Great Lakes aquaculture. Applications to this competition can propose new aquaculture extension or technology transfer projects, new or increased personnel capacity in aquaculture extension or technology transfer, or a combination of the two.

  • Open to the following Sea Grant Programs and Projects: all Sea Grant Colleges and Institutions, Guam Sea Grant, Lake Champlain Sea Grant, and the National Sea Grant Law Center.
  • Applications can request up to $300,000. Each eligible applicant may submit up to two applications.
  • 50% Non-federal matching funds are required.

2010 NOAA Sea Grant Aquatic Invasive Species - CLOSED
NOAA Sea Grant will make available $2,000,000 in 2010 and up to $2,000,000 in 2011, if appropriations are available, to Sea Grant programs to support integrated projects of research, outreach, extension, education and/or management, addressing regional aquatic invasive species priorities for U.S. coastal, ocean, and Great Lakes areas. This opportunity seeks especially to support projects that address NOAA-relevant regional aquatic invasive species priorities identified by Sea Grant Regional Research Plans, by NOAA Regional Collaboration Teams, by the Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Task Force Regional Panels, and in ANS State Management Plans. Up to eleven projects of median federal funding $400,000 are anticipated. Some projects selected in this competition may be awarded in 2011 and funded with 2011 funds.

  • Open to the following Sea Grant Programs and Projects: all Sea Grant Colleges and Institutions, Guam Sea Grant, Lake Champlain Sea Grant, and the National Sea Grant Law Center.
  • One application is expected per region. Regions are the Sea Grant regions defined in 2006/2008 Regional Research and Information Planning competitions.
  • Application materials are due May 17, 2010.
  • Proposals may request up to $400,000 in total. (But proposals addressing multiple regions may request up to $400,000 times the number of regions.)

John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship: Class of 2014 OPEN
National Sea Grant College Federal Fellows Program, was established in 1979 to provide a unique educational experience to students who have an interest in marine/ocean/Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources. It is open to all students enrolled in a graduate or professional program in a marine- or aquatic-related field at a U.S.–accredited institution of higher learning. The fellowship allows students to share their expertise with policy makers in Washington, D.C., and provides a first-hand look at how science is used in the policy arena and how decisions are made.

National Marine Fisheries Service - Sea Grant Joint Graduate Fellowship Program in Population Dynamics and Marine Resource Economics - OPEN
The NMFS - Sea Grant Joint Graduate Fellowship Program in Population Dynamics and Marine Resource Economics is designed to help Sea Grant fulfill its broad educational responsibilities and to strengthen the collaboration between Sea Grant and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).The Fisheries Fellowship is available to US citizens who are graduate students enrolled in PhD degree programs in academic institutions in the United States and its territories. Sea Grant and NMFS, with required institutional matching funds, expect to support at least two new Fisheries Fellows in both Population Dynamics and Marine Resource Economics in FY 2013.  Fisheries Fellows will work on thesis problems of public interest and relevance to NMFS and have summer internships at participating NMFS Science Centers or Laboratories under the guidance of NMFS mentors. 2012 Sea Grant/NOAA Regional Team Engagement - CLOSED

The National Sea Grant Office announces that the 2012 Request for Proposals for Sea Grant/NOAA Regional Team Collaboration Grants is now available on grants.gov, Federal Funding Opportunity number NOAA-OAR-SG-2012-2003367.

For FY2012, the NOAA National Sea Grant College Program and Office of Program Planning and Integration anticipate making available up to $200,000 for projects that support the National Sea Grant College Program Strategic Plan 2009-2013 and the NOAA FY2012 Annual Guidance Memorandum. As in the past, we expect to receive one submission per NOAA region, and each proposal must be endorsed jointly by the NOAA Regional Team and the Sea Grant programs in the region. The proposals are due June fourth.

Up to eight grants of up to $25,000 each are expected to be awarded through a competitive process, subject to the availability of funds and number and quality of proposals received. No match is required. As in previous years, the award in each NOAA region may go to a NOAA office or lab, to a non-Federal Sea Grant partner, or it may be split between the two.
