Loan Guarantee Program Governing Documents

Title XVII of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 provides the basis for the Energy Department’s Loan Guarantee Program (LGP). Section 1703 and Section 1705 fall under the LGP. This title provides broad authority for the Department to guarantee loans that support early commercial use of advanced technologies, if there is reasonable prospect of repayment by the borrower. Loan guarantees will be another tool that the Department will use to promote commercial use of innovative technologies. This tool is targeted at early commercial use only, not energy research, development, and demonstration programs.
