warn_icon.gif IMPORTANT MESSAGE Jan 29, 2013    IMPORTANT: Rollback and Replacement of TRMM VIRS Data for Sat. January 26, 2013

From PPS: PPS has rolled back and replaced TRMM VIRS products (1A01, 1B01) for
Saturday January 26, 2013. If you have obtained any of these products
previously either through a Standing Order or directly from our ftp
archive, please discard these older files and use the replacement files
bearing a date/time of 1/28/2013 - 19:12 and after.

After PPS had processed TRMM data products for Jan. 26, 2013, PACOR made
an improved Level Zero VIRS file available with recovered missing
packets. PPS decided to use this version 2 file to improve the quality and
integrity of the VIRS data for that period. Please see the message
from Sylvia Campbell (below).

"VIRS is missing 33 packets due to PSN jumps. Although the original
product is above criteria (99.98% data recovery), the missing data was
recovered in-house. The PSN jumps affected different time periods on the
prime and backup systems. Data events from both systems were used to
recover the data. Therefore, an LOR did not have to be ordered. A
version 2 product (VIRS only) is available for transmission.

OLD Version:
L0VIRS.130126 | TRMM_G051_LZ_2013-01-26T00-00-00Z_V01.DAT1

New Version:
L0VIRS.130126 | TRMM_G051_LZ_2013-01-26T00-00-00Z_V02.DAT1"

We regret any inconvenience that this may cause and appreciate your
patience.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

warn_icon.gif IMPORTANT MESSAGE Dec 19, 2012    Retrospective processing of Version 7 TMPA has been finished

Retrospective processing of Version 7 TMPA has been finished. All data services are up to date, including Mirador, Giovanni TOVAS, etc. Retrospective processing of TMPA-RT is still ongoing and as soon as it is done, we will update Giovanni TOVAS.

warn_icon.gif IMPORTANT MESSAGE Nov 21, 2012    IMPORTANT: Data Replacement for TRMM 3B42/3B43 Products for Jan. 2000-Sep. 2010

From PPS: Due to a processing error during the first Version 7 re-processing cycle,
PPS will be rolling back and replacing TRMM 3B42 and 3B43 data products
including Browse for January 2000 through September 2010.

The TRMM GIS products will also be replaced, but will not be removed prior
to replacement.

During the next several days (over the Thanksgiving break) PPS will be
deleting the existing 3B4X products from our archives in preparation for
reprocessing these replacement products.  Therefore, please be aware that
the 3B42 and 3B43 and associated products will be temporarily unavailable.

If you have obtained any 3B42/3B43 data from the PPS ftp data archive or
through a Standing Order/s, please discard this data and use the
replacement products once they become available.  PPS will issue
another announcement once this new data is archived.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this correction may cause and
appreciate your patience and understanding.  Please let us know if you
have any questions or concerns.

Welcome to the Precipitation Data and Information Services Center (PDISC). Here are some links to help you get started:

Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM)

GPM LogoAn international satellite mission to be launched by NASA and JAXA in 2014 that will set new standards for precipitation measurements worldwide using a network of satellites united by the GPM Core Observatory.  For more information on the mission visit the Precipitation Measurement Missions informational web site.

The GES DISC will archive the data and provide the same expansive services currently offered to the user community for the TRMM data products. More information will be available as the data gets closer to the launch of the mission.

Explore Precipitation Data with Giovanni

Giovanni IconGiovanni TOVAS, a member of the Giovanni (GES-DISC DAAC On-line Visualization and Analysis System) family, provides users with an easy-to-use, Web-based interface for the visualization and analysis of Earth Science data without having to download the data first.

PDISC Guide for New Users

For users new to the PDISC, we offer a getting started guide.

Precipitation Data Services at the DISC

  • Facilitate data access, information processing to support precipitation research and decision making
  • Nurture cross disciplinary precipitation related research, such as energy and water cycle, aerosol-precipitation interactions

The data holdings at the PDISC consist of remote sensing, in-situ and forecast (to be added in the future) precipitation and ancillary data. The PDISC also provides access to near-real-time and historical precipitation data. The TRMM Online Visualization and Analysis System TOVAS provides a fast and easy way to access the most popular products. While you're here, check out:
