WASHINGTON, D.C.—Yesterday, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) hosted Chris Long, President of Ohio Christian Alliance, and his wife, Sylvia, for the 61st Annual National Prayer Breakfast.

Portman invited the Longs to join him at this annual breakfast which is attended by 3,500 guests, including international visitors from over 100 countries.

Portman and Long have worked closely together in building support for the World War II Memorial Prayer Act of 2012, which Portman plans to reintroduce near Memorial Day. The bill calls for the installation of a plaque or inscription at the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. that reflects the prayer President Franklin D. Roosevelt united the nation with on the morning of D-Day.

“I am grateful for Chris’s friendship and leadership of the Ohio Christian Alliance over the years, and was honored to have him and Sylvia join me at this year’s National Prayer Breakfast.  The Prayer Breakfast is a great opportunity for all to come together to recognize our nation’s Judeo-Christian heritage and pray for God’s blessing on our country,” said Portman.  “I look forward to continuing to work with Chris on the World War II Memorial Prayer Act.  President Roosevelt’s prayer inspired our nation during one of the most devastating times in American history.  This bill will make sure this prayer is never lost in time; that people everywhere are reminded of not only the sacrifices of the armed forces who bravely fought in World War II, but how a simple, heartfelt prayer can be influential in strengthening a nation during hardship.  The National Prayer Breakfast reminds us of just that.”
