The Journey Jul 11, 2010 The journey begins with a wound or serious injury. It continues through painful therapy, surgeries, and treatment. When the time comes to leave the uniform behind, we are there to continue the journey with you – side by side – as you prepare for civilian life.

The Student Veteran Jul 10, 2010 Learn and prepare for your next career at a major university or community college (depending on academic background). An army of volunteers and staff are there to shepherd you and your fellow Wyakin Warriors through graduation, then position you for a rewarding career.

Destined for Leadership Jul 09, 2010 When a company hires a Wyakin Warrior, it knows its new employee is highly educated, highly trained, highly motivated, and well-connected. After graduation, we stay connected – for life – to be a ready source of information, networking, and troubleshooting as you progress in your career.

The Wyakin Warrior Foundation is a 501 c(3) nonprofit organization providing a full-spectrum education and professional development program for severely wounded, injured, or ill Post 9/11 veterans, designed for collegiate success and resulting in a rewarding career after graduation. Specifically, the program provides:

A full, four-year scholarship (including room, board, books, tutoring, and living expenses).
A custom, one-on-one, multi-layered mentoring program by the nation’s top leaders in business, industry and government service. Mentorship continues for a full year after graduation.
Monthly professional development seminars by business leaders, public officials and employment experts.
Lifetime membership in a fraternal organization (the Wyakin Warrior Foundation).
A service project, completed while in school, to benefit other wounded warriors.
Robust networking to assist them in securing gainful employment after graduation – not just get a job, but get a good job with upward mobility.

Our veterans can attend Boise State University, which has been an enthusiastic supporter of the program, or the College of Western Idaho, a local community college.

What is a “Wyakin”?

According to Native American legend, a wyakin is a spiritual guide that advises and protects a person throughout life. As a rite of passage, a young Native American was taken to an isolated mountain location where the child remained alone until the wyakin (often an animal such as an eagle or a wolf) appeared in a vision or dream.
