Step 3 - Interview

When the interview is scheduled the beneficiary will receive a visa appointment letter and another checklist to prepare final documents for the visa interview.  Among other things, the beneficiary must have a medical exam from one of our approved panel physicians.  Follow the instructions closely since you will have to complete all items on the checklist before an immigrant visa can be issued to the beneficiary.

The visa interview is a discussion between the consular officer and the beneficiary; the petitioner should NOT attend the interview unless requested by the Consular staff.   At the end of the interview the beneficiary will receive a letter describing any additional requirements that he/she must meet in order to receive the immigrant visa.  Most cases are not approved on the day of the interview so don’t despair.  Simply follow the information presented by the consular officer to fulfill the requirements of the immigrant visa.  We encourage you to review our list of “Visa FASTLANE Tips” to be better prepared for the interview.

Please be aware that all visitors to the Consulate must comply with our strict security screening requirements.  To avoid delays, we encourage you to review these security requirements prior to your appointment.
