Success stories from businesses

  • A few companies are now introducing residential-sized CH&P units that are about the size of a clothes dryer, and make from 1 KW to 6 KW of electricity, just the amount of power needed in an average home using from about 300 kWh a month to about 900 kWh. Germany’s PowerPlus Technologies which has long supplied the ecopower to Europe is partnering with Wisconsin’s Marathon Engine Systems to bring it to the US:  http://cleantechnica.com/2010/08/13/make-electric-power-in-your-basement/
  • Frito Lay’s world’s first 100% compostable food packaging and Los Alamos National Lab’s ultrasonic algae harvester among the over 80 US companies and national labs that received the coveted R&D magazine’s 2010 R&D 100 awards.  R&D 100 awards are known as the “Oscars of innovation”: http://www.rdmag.com/Awards/RD-100-Awards/R-D-100-Awards/
  • A123 Systems (Nasdaq:AONE), a developer and manufacturer of advanced Nanophosphate™ lithium ion batteries and systems, today announced the grand opening of the largest lithium ion automotive battery production facility in North America, based on available data. The new plant in Livonia, Mich. is expected to expand A123's manufacturing capabilities by up to 600MW hours per year when fully operational, contributing to the company's plan to expand global final cell assembly capacity to more than 760MW hours annually by the end of 2011. The opening of the Livonia factory comes just over one year after A123 was awarded a $249 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help the company execute its strategy to ramp up U.S. manufacturing capabilities to meet increasing, market-driven demand for its innovative technologies. http://ir.a123systems.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=506787
