Commerce Assistant Secretary Michael Camunez visits Kenya – May 16-18, 2012

The Commercial Section of the U.S. Embassy in Kenya (CS Kenya) worked closely with American Chambers of Commerce in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Uganda to coordinate a visit by Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary for Market Access and Compliance Michael Camunez to Kenya on May 16-18, 2012.   Assistant Secretary Camunez came to Kenya to engage the local private sector in the White House's East Africa Community Initiative, which will seek to deepen trade ties between the United States and Kenya through a Commercial Dialogue.  Assistant Secretary Camunez spoke at a Structured Finance Seminar for Public-Private Partnerships, as well as a U.S. Trade and Investment Roundtable for U.S. investors throughout the East African Community (EAC).  The Commercial Dialogue will be formally announced in partnership with the EAC partner governments at the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) forum in Washington, D.C. next month.  Click here  (PDF 95.4 KB)to read more about Assistant Secretary Camunez’s visit. 

Washington, D.C. Hosts AGOA Forum – June 14-15, 2012

The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) is the U.S. Government’s signature trade initiative with sub-Saharan Africa.  AGOA provides trade preferences to 40 sub-Suharan African countries that are making progress on economic and political reforms.  The annual U.S.-sub-Saharan African Trade and Economic Cooperation Forum (the AGOA Forum) is the U.S. Government’s premier high-level, bilateral event with sub-Saharan African governments.  This year’s Forum will be held on June 14-15, 2012 in Washington, D.C. with the theme of “Enhancing Africa’s Infrastructure for Trade.”  Click here (PDF 220.5 KB) to read more about the AGOA Forum.

U.S. Embassies Jointly Recruit an EAC Delegation to the CCA Infrastructure Conference – June 18-20, 2012

The Commercial Section of the U.S. Embassy in Kenya (CS Kenya) is working with the U.S. Embassies in Rwanda, Tanzania, and South Sudan to recruit an East Africa delegation to the Corporate Council on Africa’s Infrastructure Conference in Washington, D.C. on June 18-20, 2012.  Participants will discuss commercial opportunities in the transportation, energy, and information and communications technology sectors.  Click here (PDF 155 KB) to read more about joining the delegation. 

Businesses Invited to Attend U.S.-Africa Business Conference – June 21-22, 2012

The U.S. Department of State, in collaboration with private sector partners, will host the U.S.-African Business Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio from June 21-22.  The U.S.-Africa Business Conference aims to expand on the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Forum by providing an opportunity to both showcase U.S. business expertise to potential African clients, and to highlight trade and investment opportunities in Africa to U.S. exporters and investors.  Click here to learn more about attending the conference.
