Student Visa (F, J and M) Applicants

Information for Students/Exchange Visitors

In addition to DS-160 visa application form students and exchange visitors must present additional documentation at the time of interview. Students must possess a valid I-20 form, and exchange visitors a valid J-1 (DS 2019) form before applying for a visa. The Consular Section does not provide these forms; the institution accepting or sponsoring the applicant provides them.

Every student must also provide proof of payment of appropriate SEVIS fee. The Consular Section does not accept SEVIS fee payments. Please see the link http://www.ice.gov/sevis  for more details.

Students and exchange visitors should be prepared to provide documentary evidence that adequate financial resources are available to cover all expenses in the U.S. The holders of student visas should be aware that they will not be admitted to the U.S. until a date thirty days or less prior to the beginning of the program date, shown on an I-20 or DS-2019 form. Please consider that date carefully when making travel plans.
