U.S. Embassy’s Military Liaison Office Supports Water Purification Seminar

Georgetown, Guyana – A team of water purification specialists under the Florida Army National Guard conducted an assessment of the water purification systems, equipment status, and operations to assist the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) in developing a plan that can be used to direct future resources, during a July 30-August 3 visit to Guyana.

The bilateral exchange between the U.S. and GDF forces focused on how Guyana could improve its water purification practices in remote bases.  The team developed recommendations for modification of processes and equipment in order to mitigate the health threats affecting troops along the border of Guyana and bolster their individual and collective readiness in counternarcotics and other security operations.

The Army National Guard reviewed preventative water safety measures, survival tactics, and effectively managing water supply systems at three Guyana Defence Force bases, including the Jungle Warfare Center.  The team also assessed water sources and systems to provide insight for advanced purification methods in future operations.
